PETITION TO CLOSE DOWN THE PALESTINIAN OFFICE LOCATED ON THE CAMPUS OF SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY AND TO REQUIRE SAID OFFICE BE ROTATED AMONG ALL CAMPUS CLUBS
To the Board Of Trustees, Governor Gray Davis, University President Robert Corrigan , the California State Legislature, the signatories of this Petition request the immediate closure of the Palestinian/GUPS office located in the Student Union Building at San Francisco State University for the following reasons:
Whereas the San Francisco State campus is a taxpayer funded institution, and despite any claims to autonomy by its student government, that the University as state property has ultimate control of its buildings and their use thereof, it is hereby requested the office designated as belonging to the pro-Palestinian groups be evacuated and shared on a rotating basis with others of the 260 clubs on campus on a regular basis.
The office in question has been used by only one group on campus, a pro-Palestinian faction for over five years whereas other campus groups have not been permitted use of an office. This is both unfair and a misuse of taxpayer and University property. After recent assaults against Jewish students on the SFSU campus, he office was closed, yet allowed to display the organization's flag on the door and not released to other campus groups. Given that the Palestine Authority, whose flag adorns the door, and its leadership overwhelmingly supported Saddam Hussein, a regime who is currently at war with the Untied States, it is an inappropriate use of a taxpayer supported institution.
The presence of this office has also instilled a climate of hate and anti-semitism on the San Francisco State University campus and promotes a climate of hate against the US government and its citizens and taxpayers who support the University. Whereas the pro-Palestinians who run this office are only one club on campus, no other group has been given unlimited usage of an office on campus. In the interest of fairness and allowing for the free exchange of ideas, opposing organizations should be provided similar office space or where space is not permitting, allowed to have equal time in such a location as one finds in the Student Union Building on the SFSU campus.
Recently the student groups which control this office were disciplined by the campus President for threatening Jewish students to such an extent that 25 San Francisco police officers had to be called to campus to escort them to safety. Allowing such a group special control of limited office space only encourages such antisocial behavior by making such a group feel it is excluded from normal rules and behavior as required of all other students and groups. The political and foreign movement this group purports to represent has been linked repeatedly to terrorism and has contributed to the deaths of 150 American citizens as well as countless other Israelis and Europeans. There is also a question over whether the office is indeed just another campus "club"or a means of disseminating propagnada on a state campus with the help of Saudi money and funds from the Palestine Authority. As such, it would be an office utilized by a foreign power and some of its "students" in fact being foreign agents. We the undersigned hereby demand the immediate closure of said office and its use be designated in a fair revolving manner for all other groups on the San Francisco State University campus.
